What Made the ThonTester Initiative a Game-Changer for Domestic Travel Marketing in Norway

Goals and objectives

VG Partnerstudio’s mission is to tell great stories on behalf of advertisers and help clients increase brand awareness and brand value through branded content. We created a broad campaign for Thon Hotels, the 3rd largest hotel chain in Norway, with both articles and videos published on VG.no and Facebook. The goal was to make as many people as possible interested in the campaign ThonTester, where Thon Hotels invited the whole country to test their newly refurbished hotels - for free. Our main goal was to recruit people who wanted to test the hotels, and then gather the reviews and make content out of it, in order to inspire people to visit Thon Hotels.

To draw attention to the campaign, we created a countdown timer on the front page of VG.no, the biggest newspaper in Norway, which counted down to the first drop of the free hotel rooms. We also created a sticky call to action button in the article, which led to the campaign site thontester.no. From the article, readers could easily register to get a free stay at a hotel of their choice.
