What Made News Corp Studios Queensland's Foster Care Campaign Resonate: A Personal Journey of Impact

Goals and objectives

Children are our most important asset. They are our future and they deserve to be protected - loved and valued - at all costs.

In 2016/17 the protection of children through Foster Care programs had had a bad 12-months. Papers, the nightly TV news, and radio broadcasts were all full of horrific stories about children who had been let down by the very people who were supposed to look after them. The sector was in crisis. There were stories about children who had been abused, even murdered, by Foster Carers. The conversation in the community around foster care was escalating quickly. NCSQ identified that immediate action was required by the Queensland Government to change perceptions in the community, to help fill these shortages and improve the situation.

The number of people signing up to be Foster Carers was declining. As a result children were being put at risk on an almost daily basis. There was very little being said, however, about the Foster Carers who do the right thing. Our five-story, five-video campaign was basically the State Government's recruitment campaign. A campaign that was clearly aimed at changing perception and applying an emotional value to Foster Caring.
